The Legal Linguist is the work of Lisa J. Schmidt, a licensed attorney with a long history of creative and professional writing. Based in Ferndale, Michigan, she practices family, students’ rights, and criminal defense law in the Metro-Detroit area. Blogging has been a big part of making her firm a success.

Lisa has a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing (English) from Michigan State University and was on Law Review at Thomas M. Cooley Law School. In her spare time, she writes long-form fiction novels. She is never at a loss for words and knows how to make difficult topics easy for the public to understand.

Since Lisa opened her firm in 2011, she’s had countless conversations with fellow lawyers who say they can’t blog for one reason or another, even when they said they should. She knows lawyers need to make better use of high quality, updated web content to bring in more target clients and increase web traffic.

Thus, the Legal Linguist was born. Lisa wants to help lawyers in solo practices and small firms to take full advantage of online and social media marketing without having to take away from their billable hours.
